Full Mental Jacket

My Dear Fellows & Dear Princess Normal,

Of course, the younger generation cannot comprehend the horrors of war as we can. We are the generation that lived through the unending nightmare that was films about Vietnam; suffering and sweating as "Hueys" deposited "Grunts" into the "DMZ" while "Charlie" stalked through the undergrowth.

So many Vietnam films. So many. There were times we thought we would never make it. That was the 80's, man. The young people have no idea.

Caro LOVES all this stuff. Her dad made her watch all fifty million episodes of "Vietnam: The Ten Thousand Day War" on the telly. Meanwhile, there was "Born on the Fourth of July" and "Platoon" and "Hamburger Hill" and "First Blood" and "The Deer Hunter" and "Apocalypse Now" and "Good Morning Vietnam" and "84 Charlie MoPic" and "Uncommon Valour" and "Full Metal Jacket" and "Missing in Action" and "BAT-21" and "Air America" and "Rambo: First Blood Part II" on VHS.

Even "Lethal Weapon" was about Vietnam veterans, now that I think about it.

Indoctrinated by Shetland Dad, Caro will often go around saying things like, "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" and "We need you back in 'Nam, John."

"I think I'll put together a 'Nam playlist," Caro announced this week. "So long as it finishes with a big ballad by Frank Stallone," I suggested.

So today I came home to the finished playlist blaring out from Alexa. I'm not sure if Caro had actually done any other work. I expect she was imagining herself sitting in a helicopter with an M16 in her hand.
