The Old Police House

One Street 5
Back in the village this morning on my way to Bingley to go to the bank and do a little shopping. It was very cold and it took me some time to clear the frost off my car.

The low sun is illuminating the top of the house which sits right on the junction in the centre of the village and, as the name suggests, was the original police house in the village. No longer of course and I haven't established when it was still in use. When we first came to the village there was another, more modern, police house further up Long Lane 36 years ago. I also remember that the small building that was used for a cell was still there at that time. It is no longer but it was attached to the left hand rear of the house behind the large gate you can see in the picture.

When trying to find out information on the building I found a site that said there were 90 residential buildings in Long Lane and this must be the bottom one.

There is a paddock behind the house where I have photographed horses in the summer, but I think it belongs to the old Sunday School on Keighley Road. Mill Beck also passes immediately behind it having come under the road and old mill buildings, which are now houses (you can just see them through the trees) before going under the road again to join Harden Beck and flow down to Bingley to become part of the River Aire.

I remember passing the another police house on my way to school in my village of Cullingworth - when did they cease to function?

One year ago was the lighting of the village Christmas tree which is right across the road from the Old Police House.
