Wound up in Wexford

Die Oog

It was forecast to be very hot today, so we decided to do some essential indoor tasks.  W needed to sort out access to his South African bank account, and we had both decided to that we had not packed enough pairs of shorts or trainer socks, so wanted to find cheap clothing.

However, we couldn't do that till the afternoon as the shopping centre where the bank was located was scheduled for "load shedding"* in the late morning.  So we visited Die Oog.  It is a small suburban conservation area that U had been meaning to visit for some time.  It was a lovely place to spend a leisurely hour or so, with plenty of shade.  Not an immense amount of wildlife on show, but we saw lovely butterflies, some red dragonflies, sun birds, a pair of Egyptian geese, and a family of red knobbed coot.  There were other unidentified birds.

In extras, another elephant is visible in the rock formation behind the wetland area.

* Load shedding is the term used to describe scheduled power cuts, intended to ease pressure when the demand exceeds the supply, but currently probably being used as a political tool by the monopoly electricity supplier in South Africa.
