The Romsey war Horses

This wonderful statue celebrates the rich history of the war horses in Romsey. The camp could accommodate 5000 horses and 2000 men. Horses came from England, Ireland and even America.
During the war many horses were shipped to France via Southampton. After the war the depot buildings were demolished and used as the hard core standings for this park. Under the footings of this statue are four horse shoes found on the French battle fields, a Remount Depot cap badge and two terracotta horses made by local children. The power of the stories of the war horses was so brought to life by Michael Murpurgo, not to be forgotten.
