Touching up Ebeneser
The divide between church goers (essentially Anglican) and the non-conformists remains strong in Wales. Trefdraeth/Newport Pembs, has, like many villages in Wales, three chapels of different denominations, usually Baptist, Methodist and Independent. Traditionally their congregations are fiercely loyal and exclusive, rather like followers of rival football teams.
Ebeneser Independent Chapel dates back to 1845 when it cost £1500 to build using Cardiganshire sandstone rather than the local Preseli bluestone. As I passed today I noticed it was getting a paint job and the ladders were casting interesting shadows on the wall.
There's a view of the complete frontage here.
