River Irwell

On a spring like day, when everything seems calm and serene, it is difficult to believe that these houses off Heath Avenue were flooded on Boxing Day 2016. I was told that for a long time afterwards the children panicked whenever it rained heavily and the river started rising.

Looking at this image it is difficult to believe the Irwell could rise so high. But it could and it can.
