Don't know what happened to the thumbnail - it's gone all psychedelic!

Just in front of my front door lives this plane tree which for some reason shed a third of its bark - Meles & DaveH  were witnesses to this phenomenon, probably five years ago.

Seems to be going a bit pear-shaped...
