Velhorst

Velhorst is a large estate along the river Berkel in the "Achterhoek" in the province of Gelderland, the Netherlands. It now belongs to an organisation for the preservation of nature, "Natuurmonumenten". All the farms on the estate have beautifully coloured wooden shutters in front of the windows.
In the Middle Ages an earlier manorial estate was built at this spot by the Duke of Gelre for a steward in order to collect what was due to him by his farmers. The present house stems from 1741.
