Hot Pursuits

My Dear Princess Normal and Dear Fellows,

It was hot in Wellington today. Caro and me escaped into the cool a/c controlled atmosphere of a cinema with Linda to see Cold Pursuit, the new Liam Neeson film.

But we couldn't go to our normal regular cinema because EARTHQUAKES. Yes! A few weeks back the Reading on Courtney Place (which has recliners and does a mean Apple Martini) was shut down all of a sudden because it wasn't earthquake-proof enough.

Instead we were FORCED to go a whole block further to the Event, which is actually also lovely. No recliners, but the nice people bring you food. I ordered a pizza expecting some tiny thing and a deep-pan monster large enough to feed a family was delivered during the trailers.

Fortunately, I can be as much of a pig as I like in the dark, without inspiring horrified glances from tiny little emaciated skinny people.

The film was the perfect antidote to the sun. It takes place in wintry climes but was not at all what we were expecting. It's about Liam Neeson OUT FOR REVENGE after his son is murdered by drug-dealers. So I was expecting lots of car chases, fisticuffs and VERY BIG GUNS.

However, although there's a bit of that going on, it's actually a quirky comedy. No! Really! So after about 10 minutes, I was feeling a bit "uh-oh". Like I had PPI mis-sold the film to Caro and Linda . Seriously, this trailer totally misrepresents the film.

Fortunately they were into the quirk and really enjoyed it.

Caro said it reminded her of "Fargo" without the "ohhh yaaaa" dialogue. I can see her point.

After the movie, we walked along the harbour and got something to eat. It was a really lovely evening, just a breeze taking the edge off the heat. We were all struck by how quiet Wellington is. Maybe it is because there are just less people in Wellington than in Edinburgh, but to us it always feels a bit empty.

Not that there weren't crowds around. But just not as many as you'd expect. On a sunny day in Edinburgh, Princes Street would be heaving. Wellington just felt sort of busyish.

Still, there were crowds for this fellow, doing a tightrope walk from one part of the harbour to another. He was definitely playing to the crowd, recovering easily from this moment of "wooooo-ooooo-oooooah". As you can see in the extra.

So a very pleasant Saturday was had. And Princess, I got to relate the story of your granny's UTI, which went down very well over dinner. We're a sophisticated lot.

S.
