The Big Hole, Kimberley

On the train from Cape Town to Pretoria, we had a short excursion to see The Big Hole at Kimberley. This is the largest man made hole ( as in dug by hand) in the world. Some of the statistics are staggering and I hate to think of the misery ( and occasional good fortune) that must have been endured during the digging and mining for diamonds.
The luxury train has been interesting but unfortunately Mr F has been very unwell and really has had to spend most of the time in his “cabin”. So the all inclusive food and alcohol was rather lost on him!
