Gingerbread Houses
Ky and I spent a wonderful afternoon with a friend and her two daughters making a Gingerbread Village. This was first discussed in early November, when the Good Food mag appeared on our door mats with a fantastic Gingerbread House on the front cover - of course we could do that, well Hel could and if she could I would give it a good try! Further reading of the instructions and the fact that it would have to be baked, assembled and decorated over 3 days did started to give us cause for concern. A kit, that was the way ahead, Lakeland had one that looked great - last weekend there was not one to be found in Scotland. We settled on this Gingerbread Village which at first didn't seem too promising as the buildings seemed quite tiny but I think as a little winter scene it works really well. We have promised that this will now be an annual event so watch out for bigger and better next year. Three girls - aged 5, 9 and 13 can make a fantastic mess with fondant icing, the pup is on a sugar high that it may take days for her to recover from!
