Sexism on the Amazon.

Followed by'Murder She Didn't Write' at the theatre; a romp of a satire based on Agatha Christie novels.

I knew I shouldn't have joined the village horticultural society committee. I'm now in an email argument with one of the other committee members. In an email to stream to all the committee, the member commented that he was currently on a cruise on the Amazon and that "The alligators aren't frightening but you should see some of the women on this boat.'
I replied that "Sexism was alive and well on the Amazon" and got the following reply:
"That makes me very cross. I have fought discrimination of all kinds all my life. And I cannot abide pc-ism. That is what really stands in the way of authentic behaviour and progress. If you want detailed analyses of the various demographics of a cruise ship, including all genders, I am happy to supply them. As a social psychologist and ethnographer I have lots to tell - but only ever with fondness and good humour, hope."
I have replied:
"What makes you cross? I don't like  women being compared to crocodiles, it makes me cross, but not very cross, because I'm used to it. I'm expressing my opinion authentically.
As for political correctness, like feminism, it has many definitions, depending upon who is defining it. I don't know what your definition is. My definition is common decency and politeness and respect for other people. 
I don't doubt your professional standing as a social psychologist, and your comment doesn't make me like you less, I just didn't like the comment much; You're not the comment.
I'm not sure why I'd need to know the demographics of the cruise ship, but it might be interesting! And...... when you get home, why not come and gave a coffee so that we can have friendly discussion rather than email discussion? We can always agree to differ over a biscuit or two. Discussing by email is never successful because the body language, humour and facial expressions are missing."

I await his reply. I may be resigning.
