Great stat!

I loved this statistic on last night’s Newsnight. The whole of the South East region of England houses only 481 asylum seekers.

Across all of the counties in the South East - a region with a total population of 8.5 million people - there are only 481 asylum seekers in that population!

If only I had a memory for stats like this when people are going on, especially in places like the South East, saying things like “All these asylum seekers, coming over to the UK, putting pressure on the NHS...blah blah...”. That stuff is pure nonsense, it really is.
