Tradition

A mundane sort of day today just sorting things out!! Not certain I’ve actually achieved anything tangible but some things did get thrown out.

I’m a great traditionalist but was a bit stumped at how to portray by photograph the theme of Tradition at Wide Wednesday and spent half the day racking my brains. My eureka moment came after lunch (food works wonders) when the traditional gifts associated with certain wedding anniversaries came to mind.

Many, many moons ago a little girl saved all her pocket money (well wages actually as she was paid 10p a room to dust and hoover the bedrooms) so she could buy her Mam and Dad a wedding anniversary present. Off she headed to the high street where the kindly Mrs Simpson took her in hand and guided her to the pocket money priced goods. After ascertaining that it was to be a 15th anniversary with the traditional gift being crystal the blue dish which the little girl liked (and more importantly could afford) seemed perfect for the occasion.

Forty five years later said little girl unearthed the dish stored carefully in the china cabinet and now uses it herself to store her car keys.
