Unusual Daily Rituals

My Dear Fellows & Dear Princess Normal,

Today it is Waitangi Day which means I have been sitting in bum-pants all day. Jasper made the most of the fact that I did not have to get out of bed this morning by clambering on top of me and purring. This is him doing that.

Caro is working, however. It is not a holiday in the UK, but she has sat in the living room and watched telly with me. I put on Crimson Peak, which is a little bit scary for her, but I really like it. I do like a big bit of Gothicness.

In return Caro passed me a link about the unusual daily rituals of people. I really like them. Some are very funny and some are sweet.

I suppose we all have our own rituals, but mine are not so funny. Because Caro always stays up late watching telly, I always say goodnight to her by saying, "Stay up as late as you like!" I even say it to her if she goes to bed first. It's just like our thing now.

Of course there are cat rituals. Punky always wakes me up for his breakfast and when I'm getting ready in the morning, Jasper always follows me about and curls up on the bath mat. Then I turn on the kitchen tap for him so he can have a drink while I feed the birds. I always say goodbye to them both and often check through the letter-box for one last look.

As you can see, not particularly eccentric or funny rituals, but they help guide me through that time in the morning when you are pretty much on auto-pilot.

So Happy Waitangi Day, dear friends. I hope wherever you are, you are enjoying rituals of your own.

Stay up as late as you like,

S.

p.s. I've just remembered an unusual ritual from when I was a kid. Every night when my dad put us to bed, me and my sister would shout, "Fireworks! Fireworks!" and my dad (who was a smoker at the time) would take his fag out of his mouth and wave it around, making crazy fiery circles in the air for us kids while making "WHOOOSH!" and "WHEEE!" noises.

I reminded him of this a couple of years back. "God, I burned through so many bloody cigarettes doing that," he told me.

I still remember it though. I think that makes it worth something.
