Today the HG had some business in Perthshire so I went along. While travelling we saw a sign for Fingask Castle and went to have a look. Quite a magnificent building, and with an nearby pavilion used for weddings etc.
It is an L plan tower house dating rom 1594 and was the property of the Bruces of Clackmannan at one time. It was restored in 1967. It has the largest collection of topiary in Scotland. There are a lot of sculptures in the garden, and the HG was pleased to be photographed beside one (2nd extra).
We also saw the ruins of Evelick Castle, ) which was a 16th century tower house of three storeys. It has links with the Lindsays who were descended from the 4th Earl of Crawford, and more recently with Allan Ramsay, the portrait painter. I have shown the ruins as an extra photo.
It was an interesting day...….
