Woodland snowdrops

Twice a year I head up to Ranmore Church, at this time to find the snowdrops, and in a few months's time to see the bluebells. The snowdrops were plentiful, in clumps in the woodland alongside the church. I persuaded Normous to come with me for once and he enjoyed the drive though the lanes on the drive up to Ranmore, high on the North Downs.

The massive Church of St Barnabas (extra) was built by Denbies estate owner Sir Thomas Cubitt who wanted to provide a centre for the small community on his estate. It was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott and consecrated in 1859. It is typically Victorian with a heavy exterior. It is built of unknapped flints and has a very high spire which can be seen from much of mid Surrey. We explored the churchyard, but the church wasn't open.
