Sally Mair - Loving life

Day 4 Tea?

I'm not fond of the word iconic, I think it is very much overused, but for me the sight of a tea maker is synonymous with life in India. This man is serving what I call ' long tea '. Tea or coffee is poured into a cup then poured from jug to cup and back again several times which serves both to mix the tea, milk and sugar and also to cool it down. Some of the tea men are great showmen and pour the tea from great heights, others like this guy dress for the occasion. I imagine this umbrella hat is very useful in the very hot sun. It was cool today only 31'.
Today I walked up cardiac brae again, going to the post office and back to post the daily card to Eilidh and Isobel. It's a mile each way and the weather today has been very close with thunderstorms forecast which happily have not materialised! There was a cool wind off the sea at breakfast which almost put me off eating breakfast outdoors (no it didn't really! ).
I spent time in the pool and did some more walking around the back paths around the beach area. These are largely twisty little lanes which have developed along the gaps left between buildings - it's an absolute maze and I'm always glad of my good sense of direction when I'm in there. There are lots of shops back there and their prices are usually much better than the beachfront ones. There are lots of local tailors there too and I have had a couple of pairs of trousers which I brought with me shortened there.
I emailed a local car firm to organise for a car and driver to come from Tirunelvelli on Thursday to pick me up and take me over there for the bulk of my stay. Nice to make user of my Indian Sim and speak to some of my friends there too.
I walked the seafront a couple of times over the course of the day and I'm glad I've been managing to keep up my steps while I'm here at least. 13309 steps today.
