Growing old disgracefully

By GOD

THE BIG ONES

To Kelvingrove today to see Dippy, the enormous cast of a Diplodocus on loan from London.  He size does not disappoint, especially when accompanied by majestic organ music.  We were there with the ten year old, whose school was closed for the day due to a power cut. We also had a swim and a visit to his orthoptist to check his nystagmus.

It's time to talk of the other BIG ONE. The Prof got a cancer diagnosis on Friday.  Lots of tests to follow, but at present it seems like it's the right kind, in the right place, so we are optimistic. I am grateful for so many things: the marvellous  NHS; the love of friends and family;  the excellent communication I share with the Prof, which really helps at times like this.  Most of all I am thankful for the Prof's inimitable sense of humour - the very best medicine.

As I write, another cause to be grateful.  My lovely niece has just come out of a potentially dangerous surgery and is in recovery.
