Glencoe 2019 trip - day 1

Loch Tulla viewpoint

Today was the start of our adventure to Glencoe! I had to set the alarm clock at 2.30, otherwise known as silly ‘o clock. Ton arrived exactly at 3.00. On our way to Zuidhorn we went, where Herman was waiting for us. It’s a two hour drive to Schiphol from Herman’s house, but snow was forecasted and we also included some extra time for parking the car. We planned for the worst, but the drive went very smooth so we had quite some time to kill at the airport before boarding the plane at 9.00.

After landing in Glasgow around 9.45 (ahead of schedule), we picked up the Toyota Rav we rented and then we were on our way to the Clachaig Inn! We stopped for lunch at the Drover’s Inn, which is just past Loch Lomond and about half way (or so it feels). By then, we were already seeing lots of snow around us and the closer we got to Glencoe, the more snow there was. The A82 which goes all the way to Glencoe was clear, but the hills and mountains all had a nice white dusting of snow on them. It was just as we envisioned it would be when we planned this trip half a year ago!

After we checked in at the Clachaig Inn, it was time to get our winter outfits on and go out and about for photography. We planned to go to Lochan na h’Achlaise, but visibility in that area was poor so we drove on to the viewpoint overlooking Loch Tulla. It started snowing and it was very windy, but every now and then the clouds parted a bit and the sun came out. During one of these moments, I managed to get this shot. A good start to our photography trip!
