Give me the Ball
On my way to do some landscapes this afternoon, I realised that our local Rugby Football team (in the red and black) were playing a match against their visitors from Swords which is right beside Dublin Airport.
A real man's game. Played very hard but mostly fair it was a joy to see how the players obeyed every word of the referee, addressed him as "sir" and apologised to him whenever they did something wrong. During play, they murdered one another at every opportunity but always within the rules of a tough contact sport and then lined up to applaud one another off the field at full time. No histrionics, no prima donnas, no falling about in mock agony, just plain honest manly sport.
Here, the Swords scrum half is nabbed by an Arklow player as one of his own players extends his hands in a gesture which says "Give me the ball"
For the record, Arklow won 25-5 and I never did shoot any landscapes.
