I may have mentioned before that It had been ordained that a heavy solid metal security gate be fitted to the entrance to the complex, right next to my apartment, in order to keep "undesirables" out. It's a real (and literal) pain to open, as the metal frame skins your knuckles when using the key on the outside, and it is impossible to see the keyhole on the inside after dark, as the solid bulk of the door blocks any light from the street. It also relentlessly closes when you let go of it, so carrying multiple items of shopping in is inconvenient. Maxie is quite a slow bimbler, and has been forcibly ejected by the door several times when following me out for a walk. To get round this, when there is no-one else around to complain, I have taken to propping the gate open with a rock. Recently the gales have been such that the door, rock and all, blows closed anyway. This Heath-Robinson improvement has been made by returning (sensible) neighbours who found a use for a metal sign blown off the wall outside the gate....
It wasn't me, honest - but I approve.
*edit - I just found out the neighbours didn’t wedge the door with the sign, and thought I’d done it! I can only conclude that it was an act of God.
