A rainbow state of mind
Hawaii is known as the rainbow state, and for good reason. After the rain we are often treated to a rainbow, sometimes double ones like we saw on our first day here. The weather continues to be a bit cranky ... sunny, then showers, then cloudy, then showers again, then a rainbow and sun. It helps keep us flexible. Today, between showers, I went for a lovely walk on the beach and looked up to see this rainbow.
It was also Chinese New Year today, with parades and events downtown. We went with a friend, Ron, to a Korean restaurant in Chinatown, where the din of drums and firecrackers accompanied our meal and conversation. When we left the restaurant we joined the parade - which involved a "lion" that stopped in front of shops and, with lots of drumming going on, the lion reached up to grab a gift hung up by the shopkeepers and loads of firecrackers went off. Apparently, this is very auspicious for the shop.
