Árbær Folk Museum

Today we went to the Árbær museum, where they have a few shows of Christmas traditions. One example is where people are cutting out the patterns on "laufabrauð", the bread / cookie I took a photo of the other day. It used to be a family get-together, but nowadays few people actually do it themselves. We also saw a blacksmith making nails the old way, by hammering red glowing iron into the right shape, using a tool, the name of which is used in a very popular and useful Icelandic saying. But man, was it a lot of work for one nail!

It was appropriate to visit a museum on this day, because it was my father's birthday and he loved museums and old churches. He was a wonderful man who died far too young.

The weather was rather nice again today, cold and wind still.
