Everyday I Write The Book

Six degrees of Martin Luther King

This is not any suitcase. Nearly forty five years ago in 1968 Martin Luther King was assassinated and the man alleged to have committed the crime (James Earl Ray) fled to England, only to be arrested at Heathrow Airport. There he was given access to legal advice provided by a young English lawyer, Mr E, who later went to America as part of the subsequent legal process. This is the suitcase he took with him. He was my late father in law, and today is the fourth anniversary of his death.

We now use the case to store Christmas decorations (ironically given that Mr E was Jewish) and when TSM reminded me of both today's date and the history of the case - well there was no other choice of blip ...

James Earl Ray was probably innocent of the crime although not of involvement in what was almost certainly a dark conspiracy. Another connection is that james Earl Ray and my father both died at the age of 70 and on exactly the same date. How weird is that?

Actually not weird at all. It's just that we are all connected in a myriad of ways and if you look for connections, you will find them. Today I was connected to two job applications, a large piece of Victoria sponge, an exercise bike and a shepherd's pie. Not a bad day. Not a bad weekend in fact. And only ten working days until I connect with my Christmas break. Now that really is something to look forward to ...

PS after writing this I checked out my blip for a year ago today and it was about coincidence, and me saying I didn't believe in it ... what a coincidence ...
