TINY TUESDAY - ASHTON MEMORIAL LANCASTER
such a dramatic change from yesterday weatherwise. It was just wet when we arrived but turned to sleet whilst there. We always come out of Kendal by the top road, and then join the A591 by Plumgarths. Heading that way it began to snow fairly heavily, so glad we didn't have to go further north, that route.
Most drivers were being sensible but you always get the odd one that thinks its still OK to drive very fast, after all, slippery roads don't affect them do they!! However by the time we got to Sizergh it was just raining and then in Grange it was just grey and gloomy,
The clouds have lifted a bit so now we can see snow right across Morecambe Bay. The photo is taken from my balcony using a zoom lens, but not on a tripod I'm afraid so not as sharp as it could be, but not too bad.
The tiny tower (my entry for Tiny Tuesday) you can see on the right, for those that don't know is the Ashton Memorial is WIlliamson's Park in Lancaster. I have interpreted TIny to mean, tiny to me, so hope that's OK??
The Ashton Memorial was commissioned by Lancaster industrialist Lord Ashton as a tribute to his late wife Jessy it was designed by John Belcher and completed in 1909.
Externally, the dome is made of copper. At around 150 feet tall it dominates the Lancaster skyline. The first floor outdoor viewing gallery provides superb views of the surrounding countryside and out across Morecambe Bay to the Lakeland fells and mountains.
I've never been there so I must go some day.
