The Ramsay Garden buildings are amongst the most picturesque dwellings in Edinburgh and stand at the entrance to the castle. Ramsay Garden was built around a house built around 1740 for the poet Allan Ramsay with many additions including turrets, towers and balconies added later in the 1890s in order to attract lecturers and professors into the area. For a while, part of the buildings were used as student residences but now with their extensive panoramic views they are considered to be highly desirable apartments.  However for those who are tempted to stay they might need ear plugs because during the summer, huge stands are erected on the esplanade for the annual Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
