MonoMonday: Origins
Jensphotos' challenge today is to explain the origin of our blip names and how we came to be avid blippers.
My name is pretty straightforward: my name being Keith Fox, I rather unimaginatively used by initials for my name. As for the rest of it, when I was at grammar school back in the 60s I was known as Foxy by my friends and most of the teachers and the nickname seems to have stuck with me, particularly in sporting situations.
As a teacher, a lot of students called me Foxy (and probably far less complimentary things!) when they thought I was out of earshot so it seemed the obvious choice; as English was my subject, the Folio bit appealed due to the alliteration and vaguely literary connections.
I started blipping around the time I retired from full time work back in 2011. I bought my Nikon D5000 as a retirement present, intending to develop my interest in photography. Around the same time, I read an article in our local daily paper about a Librarian in Bristol who was a keen photographer and she mentioned Blipfoto in her interview. It sounded a good way to encourage myself to take more photographs and I haven't missed a day since!
I enjoy the challenge of finding the daily photo (well, most of the time!) and of keeping a daily visual and written diary; however mundane it may be most of the time, it's interesting to look back over the years and see what I've been up to!
The real bonus of course is enjoying other people's photos and their virtual friendships.
Nursing a bit of a cold today so not done a great deal, other than buy some new trainers for Keep Fat (my others have become my Park Run shoes), a bit of sawing wood for kindling and half an hour on the phone to BT trying to negotiate anew Tv & Broadband deal, without a great deal of success; it annoys me that they're able to offer a much better deal to new customers than people who have been with them for years.
