Sunny day, -1° Celsius, a LOT of snow. My son and I were on a walk. I showed him the thrushes on the streams, hare tracks, and explained how to distinguish them from dog tracks.

He wanted to bring home sausage-shaped heads of a cattail — one for himself and one for his sister. I tried to talk him out of it, remembering last year’s experience (the fuzz spread all over the house, we had to vacuum it), but my son was adamant. He also brought an icicle home and put it in the freezer so that it would not melt.
