The Versatility Of The Redgum Trees And Others...
This morning it was such a lovely cool morning for a change, we decided to go to the Market here
. We have 5 markets in our district, all taking turns to show and sell their produce and wares and to meet up with old friends as well each week in whichever town they are assigned to. The stall holders are good, strong kind people, who work so hard to prepare for the very busy Saturday or Sunday mornings. We never come home empty-handed, and always enlightened by some of their stories, each with their own special background.
Pictured today, is a happy, good friend, who not only sells his own vegetables and fruit, to us, like many others there, but he also makes beautiful bowls - from the various Trees which are indigenous of our country.
Some bowls are so large and heavy, but so authentic and unual in shape. To name a few bowls (pictured) they are the Red Gum, Large Red Mallee, and White Mallee, - the lighter bowl you see here. There is also one made from Tasmanian wood shown.
Some are from the 'burls' which grow on the side of some old trees, up high, and look like big birds' nests, and are removed (with permission) and other bowls are made from stumps of various trees..
We always enjoy our time at the Markets...and come home with our fruit and vegetables for the week, and with at times, something we've been looking for, for ages - or something - we weren't looking for!
And we know we are helping to contribute toward the livelihood of the local hardworking folk of our districts.
