An Epic Failure

No, not the cake in the blip.  I bought that one to replace the epic failure.  It was my intention to make a very special cake for my Grand-daughter-In-Law's birthday celebration today.  My big mistake was combining recipes and trying to "wing it", which is something I rarely do when baking.   I don't know what I was thinking.  I'll spare you the details and just say that by the time I got the thing mostly finished it was apparent that I had somehow frosted several kitchen sponges because that's what the cake tasted like.   A quick trip to the bakery saved the day with the pictured bavarian cream cake which, I must say, was very, very good.  My reputation as the family baker has suffered terribly and I feel I still owe Kenzie the cake my grandson said she would like which was a white cake with strawberry filling and cream cheese frosting.  So, after a suitable period of time to dust off my pride and recover from the kitchen sponge disaster, I'll bake it and surprise her when it's not her birthday.
