Birthday Book

I discovered this little Robert Burns Birthday Book this morning. It belonged to my mother and has been kept safely, tucked away in a corner of my desk, since she died 36 years ago.
A Burns quote appears for each day of the year. The entry for my birthday was the following:
The war'ly race may riches chase,
An' riches still may fly them, O ;
An' tho' at last they catch them fast,
Their hearts can ne'er enjoy them, O.
I am not sure I understand these words, but wanted to learn more, and hurried off to the internet to find Jean Redpath's magical rendition of Green Grown the Rashes O.
