Fought the wee hangover (Leah was much worse off than me) with breakfast at Cafe Brazil. This town has a serious shortage of good late-morning breakfast choices (why is brunch only relegated to Sundays?). No matter, the Austin-based Torchy's Tacos is opening a branch here in a month or so. Soon, soon. Ah, and speaking of missing Austin eateries, thought about Shady Grove this morning after hearing this beautiful cello rendition of an Appalachian classic. I can remember drinking cans of beer beneath their live oaks and hearing scooters whip by on Barton Springs as the night set in.

After breakfast we drove around a bit and found a Boy Scout troop holding a charity garage sale at the base of this large, cathedral-like church. Piles of dirty stuff, mostly. But for $45, they had this 1960s era Magnavox console with record player, radio, and television, all tucked into a thick solid wood sideboard. We guessed it weighed about four-hundred pounds. I love pieces like this but the thing wasn't in great shape (looked like it was stored outside). Not to mention we live in a tiny apartment--plus, didn't I mention it weighed about four-hundred pounds? However, we did buy this Scrabble-style sentence crossword game. I won round one.

But today is beautiful: good company with the love of my life, exploring the backstreets of this town that I think we still struggle to call home (even after two years), and listening to some good music as we fall into a catnap on our sunlit floor. A good Saturday to be sure but I still need to make this final push on things for school. The week looms, like all things.
