This duck wasn't really on its own, it was surrounded by dozens more.  They spend the winter on the Solway and I thought it was about time I took some photos and identified them.  I think its a Wigeon Anas Penelope according to a Birds of the Solway webpage.

Good news on the hand front.  Have got the all clear from the fracture clinic and don't have to wear the splint!  Still quite sore though so need to be careful for next couple of weeks.  Might even get to visit the family to give them their belated Christmas pressies :)
