"The Great Escape"
The official title of this sculpture by Edward Cronshaw soon got renamed "The Rope Horse" by the locals. It was made in rope and then cast in bronze and now rears up outside the police HQ building (someone missed the irony). If you look closely, the man has his foot on the rope behind the horse and it's unravelling itself as it fights to escape. The allusion to slavery is none too subtle. Conference finished today and it was homeward bound trying to maneouvre a rucksack, handbag and pop up stand not that much smaller than me. Didn't make too many friends on the bus back.
