Catcher

This is an eel trap, used to capture mainly silver eels! It was made by one Earnest James of whom there is a book "Fenland Tiger" I believe written of his life living of the Fens, in the Welny area. Each family would have a reed bed the crop would be used for thatch, eel traps and potatoe baskets. The above was made in around 1980 shortly before Earnest left this world in his 90s.
