Victualler
Not a word you hear very often these days. A victualler was traditionally someone who supplied food and booze to the Royal Navy. However.... (and isn't google a wonderful thing - mostly) it can also apply to a a butcher who has studied all aspects of his art from the actual slaughter to the carving to the preparation to the serving. Someone who is fully aspects in all areas of the work not just knowing how to prepare it. And I'm sure this is what TG McCarthy and his son were, master victuallers. How colourful and attractive this shop must have looked but you would have taken your life in your hand every time you stepped out of the door for this is the busiest road in Bantry. Now closed, the mural fading.
Apologies for being a poor blipper at the moment, the mojo has gone awol and there seem to be tons of other things to be doing but I guess it happens.
