Wanaka from Lismore Street

Frida and I had a super walk to Eely Point this morning. En route I took this photo which shows Wanaka in its many forms. It is growing. 5 years ago there was a permanent population of 9,400 and now it is 12,500 with 34,200 at the peak visitor season (stats from our Deputy Mayor who spoke at U3A last year on “Sustainable Growth”)
In the foreground a new hotel is being built, the marina and then Roy’s Bay and the wee township. Like many tourists destinations around the world, we are talking about how many tourists are too many tourists? it is a topic of discussion at many BBQs and meet ups!

Walking back to town via the lakeside track, Frida was admired by at least 5 different groups of people and 3 stopped to ask more about her! I had a coffee at Kai Whakapai, but no takers for puppy therapy...maybe because people didn’t see Frida under the table!
