The Little Lady - my family heirloom

This little lady is a bit of a mystery. She was adapted to accommodate a clapper and used as a hand bell to summon a maid, but I'd love to know what her history is as I think she's pretty old. She stands around 15 cm tall and is made of bronze or brass (she's been tarnished like this throughout the 50 years I've known her) - she's very heavy, but hollow. She's a bit battered because she was rescued from the rubble of my great-grandmother's house in Rotterdam (I'm half Dutch) which sustained a direct hit in bombing during World War II.
