Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge...

...was open today despite federal government shutdown and federal holiday!
It was another windy day, so we were glad to bird from the car. And we took our time, too, because there was so much to see.
Today's blip is a Reddish Egret doing its fishing dance. And you can see it was successful in stirring up some food by the little fish in its wake and one in front.
In the extras is a shot of one of the 15 or more roosting Yellow Crowned Night Herons (seen on the way to the refuge, not actually in the refuge); two Wood Storks with a Roseate Spoonbill; and part of a flock of an estimated 5,000 American Coots.
