This stunning building is the neo-gothic, 19th Century Posthoornkerk in Amsterdam. Built by P.J.H. Cuypers, the interior of this church is vast and elaborately decorated. The floor is in the shape of a cross and there are two levels of galleries.
The church has been restored by Stadsherstel (The Company for City Restoration which restores monumental and historic buildings in the centre of Amsterdam and its rural surroundings). In this way, Amsterdam’s heritage remains open to the public.
The church no longer holds religious services. It hosts concerts and can be rented for a variety of occasions, such as formal dinners, weddings, presentations and meetings. The beautiful basement is ideal for smaller-scale dinners, intimate concerts and small receptions.
We were here for the Amsterdam Whisky Festival and, although it's not now used for it's intended purpose, I'm glad to see buildings of such beauty are not left to ruin and decay.
