Loon
Swimming on a slice of polished agat. The loon is iconic for Canada. This kind of souvenir is unique for British Columbia. It is carved in the stone called black slate or black argillite, found only on one single place, a quarry on Queen Charlotte islands in northern British Columbia. The quarry is owned by the Haida nation, who has a monopoly on using it.
Last year I blipped a totem pole made of the same material.
