Moving Into The Unknown

Field of Dreams

A photo with the great former New York Yankees third baseman, Scott Brosius.  Scott spoke at a breakfast I attended this morning.  Such a class act and lots to learn from the things he shared.

Baseball is something that evokes instant childhood memories for me.  When I was 8 years old and living on a farm in rural upstate New York, I built a crystal radio and found out I was able to pull in the signal from New York City for the station that carried the Yankees games.  I'd lie in bed late at night listening to the games, dreaming about playing for the Yankees.  During summer months we'd often travel to visit relatives and attend games at Yankee Stadium, the holy grail for me.  To this day, the sound of a fastball hitting the catcher's mitt gives me shivers.

Baseball was an escape from the hardscrabble life on the farm.  Today, at 53, that sense of excitement and joy has not eluded me.  My mind contains the field of dreams that I imagine will be with me forever.
