Not A Shield

Just a lid.
 I spent some time out in the garage with the brass monkeys and while they looked for their missing round bits I attacked a couple of bits of wood.

I found a bit of spalted beech which was a bit too long for making a box and a bit too iffy for doing a vase  …….. so I cut it in half - and made two boxes.
For the lids I found a bit of elm - which had a small patch of burr in one end …. and small split in the other ………. so I cut two (thinner than I had wanted) off the better end - and was surprised to find that the wee bit of burr went deep enough to go through both slices.
So I have ended up with two boxes which are pretty similar from two bits of wood I wasn't convinced were going to stay out of the recycling bin.
