Garden City

A shopping trip to Bluewater today and we actually came home with some purchases. The clearance sales were still on but we didn't find any bargains among the items on offer.

There was a small exhibition area showcasing a proposed Garden City that is scheduled to be built near Bluewater and will link up with Ebbsfleet Station, where the hi speed train to nd ftom Paris stops. The community is invited to make contributions of what they would like to have for their ideal place.

There are already over 1100 properties in Ebbsfleet Garden City, currently called Ebbsfleet Valley, and with the development of the Eastern Quarry the land will extend to 1035 acres of land.

The location is perfect for a Garden City as it was land once used by Blue Circle Cement to quarry chalk. Bluewater Shopping/Leisure Centre was built on the company's western quarry.

The current development will be completed in 2035 and will provide 15000 homes. The land is quarry and landfill and there are already lakes on the area close to Bluewater.

It is a good use of redundant brownfield site.
Far better than taking away our green belt land in order to tarmac countryside to build homes in the south east that only a few can afford.
