Sabattier Effect or Solarisation

I've been wanting to explore the Sabattier effect for a while but no time!  Then I came across this article and looked at  examples  by Gertrude Fehr (1895 - 1996)  At that time it was a complicated photographic process, now it can be done in Photoshop.  It is the reversing of the tones of an image wholly or partially.

"After you have selected an image and opened it in Photoshop, convert it to black and white. Next, duplicate the background layer (Ctrl/Command-J) and set the blending mode to Exclusion. The initial results will be obvious and immediate. You can then adjust the effect with either the Levels or Curves adjustments. Levels allows you to tweak the black, white, and mid-points in the image. Playing with the sliders will either lighten or darken the effect."

This is my Amaryllis which has opened.  Original photo in extras.

We were about to go off to shop for a few extras when the car refused to start!  Not quite sure what s wrong but Ro has gone with the AA Man to the local Skoda Garage!  I'm left with Grandbaby who is asleep for the time being.  We are expecting our friends for dinner this evening: Chowder and soda bread, lasagne and green beans and finally lemon mousse.  I'm off to do some more cooking!!
