Regeneration

Back in 2005 large areas of forestry were devastated by hurricane force winds that swept across Skye. I have lived on the island since 1977 and it has been the only time when I have felt scared of what the weather could do, hubby was away and the children were small, I seem to remember spending much of the night awake hoping the roof was not going to blow off! As it was we got of lightly, especially compared to the likes of the Uists and Harris and Lewis.

Only now is the forestry starting to grow back after the fallen trees were cleared and new ones planted. It seemed strange seeing the hillside looking so bare for so long, although as the forestry is not native anyway it was a good insight into how the landscape originally looked before man intervened.
