The Unmentionable Day today!
After what the French call "une nuit blanche" last night where I was still awake at 2.00 am, I went off to French Book Club this morning.
Five of our 8 strong group are fluent French speakers so it keeps the three of us who can manage, but need a word or phrase from time to time, at least able sit back a bit and listen to their comments and analysis, whilst making the occasional foray into the conversation ourselves. These discussions, all totally in French, are so enjoyable.
We had all decided it was not an author we would read again, as we did not find the characters ones we could relate to, and the construction of the story was more like reading separate narratives which somehow did not join up the dots.
Home for lunch whilst avoiding the lunchtime news and any TV coverage. (!!!!!)
It is a mild day, but starting to feel colder bit by bit.
We did have some lovely clear blue sky sunshine intermittently this morning. Now I am going to have to switch on the lamps as it has become gloomier, which makes the lights in the windows of the school opposite more prominent.
Next door's cat, Doughnut, is curled up beside me on the settee. I will put him out when his owners arrive home from work later.
It's a bit like "Borrrow a cat"! as he only started to come round when our 16 year old cat Tiger died early last November.
I took the photos of our lovely hellebore which is flowering so well on the back patio. A gift for Christmas in 2017. This is the second flowering.
The other extra is my amaryllis which is making excellent progress.
Both our birthdays are in early February so maybe, just maybe, it may surprise us! No idea what colour it will be.
This evening we are going to the local cinema, which in parts has seen better days but it keeps going as people do make use of it, instead of trekking into Birmingham or Tamworth. The latter is marginally nearer, and a 20 or so minute car journey. The former cinema(s) in town, as there is a choice, are a Cross-City line train ride, also about 20-25 minutes.
We are going to see "The Favourite" which is up for a BAFTA nomination with Olivia Colman up for Leading Actress.
As we are going to the 8.15 pm screening, no doubt someone will have their mobile on silent for the Unmentionable outcome!
Time for a coffee.
