Peveril of the Peak

I had a good plan for today, which involved working from home in the morning, driving to Chorley at lunchtime, taking the train to Salford Crescent, and then walking into the Northern Quarter to meet Ian and Simon.

I checked the times and the 13:06 would get me to Salford Crescent and allow forty minutes to walk into town. But then the train didn't stop there :-/

So instead I got off at Deansgate and had shorter walk, which took me past this pub, 'Peveril Of The Peak', lurid and incongruous, and all the better for it. I should have popped in for a pint. Instead, I arrived early at 57, Thomas Street, read my book while I waited for the chaps to arrive.

And when they did, we had a very pleasant time, drinking and chatting until Simon had to go and Ian and I went to get something to eat. It was an enjoyable yet fairly restrained afternoon, anchored to good sense by the fact that Ian has a transcendental meditation course in the morning.

Thus, I was back in Chorley in good time to go for a drink with the Minx :-)
