Scarlet Elf Cap
It was a lovely bright day, so I took my camera and macro lens to the park (dog and husband came too). I was hoping I might spot some snowdrops, but there were none to be seen yet, though the daffodil leaves are growing quite tall now.
As the wee wooden bridge is closed, we took a detour through the woods and my husband spotted these. We guessed they are some sort of fungus, and when we got home, I opened the Google lens app on my phone and pointed it the image on the screen. It gave me an instant identification - sarcoscypha coccinea, commonly known as the scarlet elf cup, scarlet elf cap or the scarlet cup.
Extra is of a fern, backlit by the very low winter sun, which was going to be my blip until we spotted the little red caps.
